Clarinda Community Theatre - Clarinda, Iowa
Clarinda Community Theatre will be holding auditions for the summer musical on 

Monday, May 27th at 4:00 PM and Tuesday, May 28th at 7:00 PM 
at the Clarinda First United Methodist Church.

There are no speaking parts for children, but children could be added to large group scenes. Families are encouraged to audition together. Children 4th grade and younger should be accompanied by an adult. Please bring a piece of music to sing and a list of summer conflicts and activities. An accompanist will be provided. CCT's "HONK!" makes an impression at 2013 ICTA Festival!

Those who attended the ICTA Festival in Newton and accepted Awards of Excellence on behalf of southwest Iowa community theatres were: Back row from left - Barb Weirich of Carson, Bob Keefer of Clarinda, Mike Harvey of Carson, John Olson of Shenandoah, and Nathaniel Adkins of Griswold. On April 6th, Iowa Community Theatre Association held their annual Awards in Excellence Gala at the 2013 ICTA Festival in Newton, IA. From March 1, 2012, to February 28, 2013, ICTA reviewers attended community theatre productions all over Iowa, reviewing in eleven categories. 

Community theatres from southwest Iowa won nine of the eleven categories!


Clarinda Community Theatre won six awards for its production of HONK! that was presented in August of 2012. Awards for HONK were:

Best Lead Actress to Carol Bellairs as Ida
Best Supporting Actress to Cindy Darrah as Lowbutt
Best Lighting Design to Bryan Wilson
Best Choreography to Jessica Parkison, Julie Karns, and Allison Rolf
Best Director to John Olson 
Best Music Direction to Gail Wallin, Katy Ridge, and John Olson

The Wilson Performing Arts Center in Red Oak won two awards for its February 2013 production of The Complete Works of William Shakespeare (Abridged). Awards given were: Best Lead Actor to Mike Harvey as Mike and Best Ensemble to Nathaniel Adkins, Mike Harvey, and Bob Keefer.

The Southwest Iowa Theatre Group in Shenandoah was also given an award in one category for its summer 2012 production of Cheaper by the Dozen. Spencer Baldwin was named Best Supporting Actor for his portrayal of Bill Gilbreth in that production.

In addition to the Awards in Excellence, the ICTA Festival hosted a theatre competition, with the top two troops advancing to AACT Region 5 Festival in Fargo, ND. The Wilson Performing Arts Center received honorable mention for their performance of The Complete Works of William Shakespeare (Abridged). The group was given adjudicator's awards as Best Technical Performance and Excellence in Acting to Nathaniel Adkins. Participants for that production were John Olson (director), Nathaniel Adkins, Mike Harvey, and Bob Keefer (cast), and Julie Karns, Kathleen Keefer, Sue Jones, and Barb Weirich (crew).
